Yay … Gnome 2.22 is really really leet!
I finally upgraded to the final version of Hardy Heron, and I was pleasantly impressed by the number of improvements in the new Gnome. Nautilus was greatly improved, and the most important thing is the “high quality” thumbnails on ZOOM … I was really missing this feature
Really stable, and a lot more faster!
Go Gnome, Go Ubuntu, Go Linux!
Though the upgrade broke my system and I had to reinstall, it worth it. I have my /home on a separate partition so it was painless, and tons of my settings were preserved, so in a few hours I get back everything, including wireless, hardware acceleration.
The sound was working great, but the jack wasn’t turning of the internal speakers, so I had to recompile alsa and add an extra line inside the alsa-base to fix this.
Setting up twin view is a bit trickier compared to Gutsy, but it can be done if you set both screens to absolute position.
Of course I turned off the indexing, which was on by default … also the “audio” preview in Nautilus because i found it quite annoying.
Other than that everything is rock stable, and really really fast! a lot more faster!
I also noticed that the “YouTube browser” is bundled with Totem, but it’s not enabled by default. Well I enabled it and it worked quite well, no crashes or anything without major headaches.
